Executive Biography:
Mary Grahovac, ACS Regional Vice President
Mary currently holds the position of Regional Vice President, Independent Agent Distribution in Protective Life’s Life and Annuity Division. Her primary responsibilities in this role include accountability for the marketing and sales growth of the life and critical illness products through distribution development, sales promotion, training and recruiting.
Mary has been working in the insurance industry for 33 years and has spent the last 24 years with Protective Life including 8 years of service in the flagship regional sales office for Protective. Prior to coming to Protective, she was with Empire General Life and worked in the New England Life and Northwestern Mutual general agencies in Cleveland, Ohio.
She has been a licensed agent with Protective since 1984 and also holds Series 7 and 63 licenses. She is an active member of the National Association for Critical Illness Insurance (NACII) which includes a position on the NACII Board of Directors, Secretary of the NACII Executive Committee and member of the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 NACII Conference Planning Committee. She’s also a member of the United Way of Central Alabama Visiting Allocations Committee and a member of Birmingham AIFA. In addition, she has been a speaker at the 2005 3rd Annual NACII Conference, 2005 Society of Actuaries Critical Illness Conference, the 2006 Inter Company Marketing Group Annual Conference, the 2006 LOMA/LIMRA/NACII/SOA Critical Illness Conference, the 2006 6th Annual S2S Conference presented by Life Insurance Selling, the 2007 Workplace Benefits Association Annual Meeting, the 2007 LOMA/LIMRA/NACII/SOA Critical Illness Conference, the 2007 Columbia SC NAIFA Salse Conference and the 2008 WBA Worksite Conference.
Mary and her husband, Marc, reside in Birmingham, AL.
Shirley S. Mitchell, ACS
AVP, Regional Training & Development
Shirley has worked at Protective for 18 years and has a 25 year background in insurance and training; accompanied by expertise in sales, marketing, and project management. At present, she is Assistant Vice President of Regional Training and Sales Development, Independent Agent Distribution, in the Life and Annuity Division. In that role Shirley provides training and sales support to independent regional offices throughout the United States.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, Shirley achieved a Certification in General Insurance from the Insurance Institute of America and a designation of Associate, Customer Service from Life Office Management Association, Inc.
Shirley has been a licensed multi-line agent in Alabama for over 25 years.
She and her husband, Lyle, reside in Birmingham and enjoy spending time with their two children and five grandchildren.
